At four years old I told her I was the fastest kid in the neighborhood and I wanted to run in a race. I became a student of track and field and that is when I started doing research on the great Jessie Owens, four time Olympic gold medalist. When I was ten my family and I moved to the Bay Area. I left a promising amateur boxing career in Los Angeles where my record was 20-2-1. I loved the Bay Area and that is where I began to focus on track and field. During track season my younger sister Maya and I would ride the bus from Alameda where we were living, to the University of California at Berkley, where we would train at the university track almost every day. My sister, my hero and inspiration dominated her competition. Of course, she was only eight, but damn good. We became a great team and started to get some notoriety around town. Later that year we won the City Championships for Washington Park, placing first in the long jump and high jump and second in the 50 and 100. It was a good day. It was also the day I found out my Grandma wore a wig. It flew right off her head as she jumped up and down while they were announcing my win. Low and behold, the next day I was on the front page of the paper. Throughout the years I have been a nationally ranked ski racer, a football star and a competition surfer. Jump to the present, I am now competing in the USA Track and Field Master’s Division 45-49 age group. I competed in my first meet in twenty eight years, posting the longest jump in the nation outdoors this year and my hundred time is top ten in the country. I am sure that I can do better and my goal is to win the National and World Championships. I am asking my friends and family to help sponsor me by contributing money so that I can travel to the different meets, as I have not yet attained a commercial sponsor. The World Championships are in Lakti, Finland this year and Masters Track athletes do not get their expenses paid by the US Government.
